China‘s aid to Laos successfully upgrades Luang Prabang Hospital

On August 16th, the China aided Luang Prabang Hospital Upgrade and Renovation Project, undertaken by China Electric Power Construction's 14th Hydropower Bureau, was officially put into operation and handed over to Laos. Relevant personnel from the Ministry of Health of Laos, the Laos China Cooperation Committee, the Chinese Embassy in Laos, and project construction units attended the handover ceremony.

Since the beginning of this century, the Luang Prabang Hospital in Laos has been an important pillar of medical and health care in the region, aided by China.

The upgrade and renovation project includes the construction of key facilities such as a new surgical and cardiovascular technology building, a Chinese expert apartment, a sewage treatment plant, a fire water pool, and a fire water pump room. The hospital has undergone comprehensive maintenance of its original buildings and outdoor engineering, and necessary medical equipment has been provided. The newly built building area reaches 5643.04 square meters, and the repaired building area is 8130 square meters.

During the project construction process, the power construction team actively implemented localized management and hired Laotian employees to participate in project management, providing a large number of employment opportunities for the local area and winning a good reputation.

In addition, the project department actively fulfilled the overseas social responsibility of state-owned enterprises and assisted the Chinese Consulate General in Luang Prabang in sending a kidnapped Chinese underage student back to China. The consulate commended the case, which was reported by China Youth Daily and CCTV International News Channel.

The completion and handover of the project will further promote the construction of Laos' health system, enhance the local medical and health level and medical treatment capabilities, and develop traditional medicine in Laos. The hospital will also become a medical center in the northern region of Laos, forming two medical center circles in the north and south with the Mahoso Hospital in the southern capital Vientiane, better serving the Laotian people and international tourists, and continuously improving local livelihoods.
